A renowned independent running shop in Exeter has closed after 20 years. The Ironbridge Runner outlet shut its doors recently following two decades in the city centre. The twin company Ironbridge Runner Events (IRE) has also ceased trading. Exeter City FC's Football in the Community (FITC) have taken over the running of the Exeter Half Marathon next month, along with the Granite Way event in March and the Santa Run in December. An FITC spokesman said: "Everything is going ahead with the half marathon as previously advised and race numbers and final instructions will be sent out to those who have already registered at the beginning of February." Former owner Peter Ferlie, who opened the running store in March 1995, is now working with FITC to facilitate the events.
