Golf round-up: Tiverton's Trowbridge win Devon Boys' Championship

TIVERTON
Tom Trowbridge became the first Tiverton player for years to win the Devon Boys' Championship when he captured the title by two shots at Stover. The 15-year-old carded a two-under gross 67 in the morning – the only sub-par round of the day – and a 74 in the afternoon for a three-over total of 141. Trowbridge now goes on to represent Devon in the English Boys' County Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, this Saturday. Richard Gibson carded an excellent eight-under nett 63 to win the Chairman's Cup on Saturday. Ollie Taylor had five birdies in a one-under gross 70, giving him a nett 66 and fifth place. Results: 1 Richard Gibson 63, 2 Steve Bates 65, 3 Tim Durrant 65, 4 Andy Bolt 65, 5 Ollie Taylor 66, 6 Julian Partridge 67, 7 Mike Jewell 67, 8 Jimmy Heard 68, 9 Mike Chorley 68, 10 Lee Scott 68 Nick Walker came in with 41 points to win the veterans' Stableford. Results: 1 Nick Walker 41, 2 Peter Stuckey 39, 3 Tony Evans 39, 4 Ian Wilson 37, 5 Norman Webber 37, 6 Terry Barwell 37 David Randell posted 42 points to win the men's September weekday Stableford at Tiverton. Randell, aided by birdies on the fifth and 13th, finished three ahead of Graham Thrall in Division Two. Gary Taylor scored 39 to take the Division One prize by one from Stephen Bazley. TEIGN VALLEY
Lorna Hunt won the bronze division of the ladies monthly medal competition as she carded a round of nett 75. In second place with 76 was Serena Skinner and Pat Martin on 77. Winner of the silver sivision was Kath Burgess with 75. Second went to Cathie Pollard with 76 on a countback from Ann Somerscales. The nine-hole qualifying competition was won by Carole Phillips with 41 points, followed by Pat O'Donnell with 39.
PADBROOK PARK
Harry Evans won the battle of the youngsters to take the Bill Blundell Classic by a point from Alex Held. Evans carded 41 Stableford points thanks to a birdie on the tough third hole which was followed by an eagle on the fourth, where he holed his second shot. Held birdied the 13th and 16th holes, but a double bogey on the last wrecked his chances of victory. Hong Chau, who came third, had three birdies on the back nine. Results, Bill Blundell Classic: 1 H Evans 41pts, 2 A Held 40, 3 H Chau 39, 4 S Heath 39, 5 C Rawlings 39, 6 C Fisher 38, 7 R Hutchings 37, 8 R Asson 37 Curtis Edwards and Steve Held won the Summer Fourball Betterball with a 3&1 defeat of Cary Rawlings and Hamish Marshall. A birdie two on the 12th was the highlight as Mike Shields won the Seniors' White Tee Stableford. DOWNES CREDITON
Paul Ezard won the seniors' September Medal on Monday. Ezard, who also took first place in Division one, was the only man under par after shooting a nett 69. He was one shot ahead of Tom Berry on 70. Division two was won by Ron Berry who shot a 70, finishing four shots clear of second placed Andrew Gilg. For the second week runniing, Oliver Greenslade was the winner of the midweek Stableford with 38 points. Coming home in second was Joe Hull with 36. Wednesday saw the club celebrate 25 years of service from head greenkeeper Terry Clark. The ladies held their autumn meeting & EWGA Medal 17 on Thursday. The silver division and overall winner was Stacey Ford with nett 71. Bronze division one was won by Sue Jackson, with 75, and bronze two was won by Ying Wong with 77. Saturday saw the final men's open of the year, the Norman Sutton Memorial. The winners, with a score of 127, were club captain Steve Whyte, Matt Arnold, Neville Pawsey and David Taylor. In second, just one shot away with 128, were Brian Williams, John Stevens, Harold Martin and Roger Coates.
DAWLISH WARREN
Bill Eaton, Roy Clarke, Edgar Forth and Ron Bates scored 62.4 to win the Texas scramble. Second were Martin Beckett, Mike Cockram and Cliff Down who scored 63.3. David Lesser, Ian Roberts and Dave Cann were next on 64.5, while fourth were Brian Norrington, Colin Ofield and John Sampson with 66. Fifth place went to Mike Tothill, Tim Morgan and Pete Dixon.
FINGLE GLEN
Steve Heale scored an impressive eight-under-par 62 to win the Swans Nest medal. He also took first place in division two ahead of Steve Ebdon in second on 68 and Adrian Blake third on 70. In division one the winner was Chris Baxendale who shot 65, from Colin Harrison on 66 and Jake Messenger with 67. The division three winner was Charles Wray with 67, second was Phil Reed on 68, and Jon Bristowe completed the prize winners with 71. Bob Harris needed a play-off to beat Martin Green in the Walter Gordon Trophy after both players finished on 38 points. Third, on 37, was Mike Phillips from Roger McAndrews and Rory Webber on 36. Results, Tuesday's Chaucers Medal: 1 David Cardy 65, 2 Jake Messenger 69, 3 Rich Stevens 70, 4 Roger McAndrews 70 The Dick Greenslade Memorial Trophy was won by Mark Welland, from Sam Finnimore in second.
OKEHAMPTON
Paul and Johnny Rattenbury won the annual pro's day competition. The father and son team finished on 43 points. In second place were Aaron Carpanini and Aaron West on 42. The winners of the best mixed prize were Blackie and Michelle Widdows with 38. Okehampton Ladies are through to the final of the Presidents Trophy after they beat Teign Valley on Thursday.

Carolyn Beattie, Ann Bate and Beverley Meeke won the yellow box competition on Tuesday with a score of 120 points. June Thomsitt, Viv Worthington and Mary Fox were second, on 114, and Caroline Harris, Jackie Harris and Sharon Thorpe (114) were third..
DMVGA
Tony Baggot won his handicap section at the DMVGA Autumn meeting at Yelverton. He carded a round of 39 points to finish ahead of Rob Corbett and Woodbury Park's Peter Warner in the 0-18 section.
