A woman from Exeter says it is a huge honour to represent England at Australian Rules Football. Caroline Abbott was one of 16 women to be picked for the first national women's squad following a trials day at Chippenham. "The women's game is developing rapidly," said Abbott. "I'm happy that an England women's team has been set up while I'm still young and fit enough to be part of it. "It's a huge honour to be involved and I can't wait to see if we can emulate the success of our men's team, the England Dragonslayers, who won last year's Euro Cup." The England Vixens' first tournament will be the Euro Cup in London on Saturday, October 4, which is being held alongside the men's tournament at the new London Irish Rugby Club facilities. Abbott, 30, said: "We're all really excited to be making history by representing England women on the international stage for the first time. "Last year, I played in the Euro Cup in Bordeaux, France, for the European Crusaders, a team made up of women from various countries without a national Aussie rules side. We beat France in the only women's match. "This year, there will be women's teams from England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Sweden and Denmark."
