A man has been treated by paramedics after being rescued from the waters off Exmouth.
Emergency services were alerted by numerous 999 calls at just before 5am on Sunday morning.
The man was said to be in a kayak that had got trapped beneath a boat. It is thought he had been drinking.
Drew Parkinson from Brixham Coastguard told the BBC: "We would recommend that you stay away from the sea after alcoholic beverages.
"And make sure you're properly kitted out, such as buoyancy aids and VHF radio and flames.
"Also ensure there's someone on shore that knows where you're going and how long you're going to be going for, so they can report you missing should you be overdue."
