Woman dies after being hit by a car in Devon

A woman has died after being hit by a car on a Devon road last night. The incident, which happened on the A386 at about 11.30 last night, saw the major route into Plymouth closed for more than seven hours. Two off-duty police officers were the first to respond to the scene and gave emergency first aid treatment to the woman, who is believed to from Plymouth. She was then transferred to Derriford Hospital by ambulance where she later died. Emergency services received a call at about 11.25pm reporting a collision between a Honda Civic and a pedestrian on the A386 near Yelverton. A section of the road was closed for more than six hours overnight, with traffic diverted towards Plympton. The driver, who lives in Plymouth, suffered minor injuries in the incident which happened near the turning to Yelverton Golf Club on Golf Links Road. A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "It is a confirmed fatality of the pedestrian." They said an investigation into the incident was continuing. Next of kin are currently being informed. Anyone with information about the incident are asked to call the police on 101 quoting the log number 951 of November 28.
