Drivers are experiencing delays on the A38 eastbound at Haldon Hill, near Exeter, after a multi-vehicle accident during Tuesday morning's rush hour.
Slow traffic has been reported between the B3344 Chudleigh turn-off and and the A380 Telegraph Hill junction.
Emergency services were on the scene of the accident, which happened on the way down Haldon Hill towards Exeter.
Several vehicles were understood to be involved in a collision. Officers were speaking to the occupants of some of the damaged vehicles at the roadside. It is not thought that anyone was seriously injured.
The road was expected to be cleared by around 10am.
The incident resulted in severe congestion on the Exeter-bound carriageway, adding to delays caused by the ongoing roadworks and average speed cameras in the area.
