A three-year-old girl died after part of a fireplace collapsed, police have revealed.
Officers say they are looking at the circumstances of the death, which took place in Plympton, Plymouth.
A spokesman said: "The girl sustained serious head injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to Derriford Hospital.
"The child was pronounced deceased a short time later."
An ambulance spokeswoman said: "We received a call at around 4.30pm yesterday and sent a doctor, two ambulance crews and an officer. The child was taken to Derriford Hospital.
"South West Ambulance Service would like to extend its condolences to the child's family."
