The owner of a Devon used car showroom has been told to take down decorative bunting from his business following complaints from councillors.
Reg Payne, who owns Westcountry Car Sales, was asked to remove the decorative flags which hang outside his showroom on Willand Road, near Cullompton, because it could be too much of a distraction for passing motorists.
Concerns about the bunting were just one of the issues raised at a council planning meeting last Wednesday after Mr Payne presented an application to expand his car dealership.
Councillors were divided in opinion over the plan, with those opposing the expansion citing the appearance of the site as one of their biggest concerns.
Planning chairman of Willand Parish Council, councillor Barry Warren, said there was a "kaleidoscope" of colours of cars on the site and there were worries of the visual impact the business had on its surroundings.
Councillor Diane Brandon agreed, suggesting a limit for the number of cars allowed on the site. But the majority of the planning committee were in favour of approving the extension.
Mr Payne described the complaints as "absolutely ridiculous".
"I'm doing nothing other than trying to make a living here," he said.
The bunting is expected to be taken down shortly.
