Alex Nicholls has been recalled from his loan spell at Exeter City.
The striker, who has played six games for City, has returned to his parent club Northampton Town after they exercised a 24-hour recall on the player.
Nicholls came to St James' Park in an initial month-long loan deal to regain fitness after spending two years out of the game recovering from a badly broken leg.
He was put straight into the Grecians' first team for their League Two clash with Mansfield and he has played in every game since, winning two penalties and scoring once.
And after Northampton's 1-1 League Two draw with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, Cobblers boss Chris Wilder confirmed that he had been recalled and will feature in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Portsmouth on Tuesday.
"We have called Alex back and he will be involved at Portsmouth on Tuesday night," said boss Wilder.
"He's had a good chunk of games there which has been great for him but it was never going to be a long-term thing and we're looking forward to having him back."
Nicholls' departure will be a hammer blow to the Grecians, who won four and drew one of the six games he was at the club and Tisdale was a huge admirer of the former Walsall striker.
With Graham Cummins also injured right now, after rolling his ankle in training last week, it leaves the Grecians with Tom Nichols as their only recognised striker.
