Fashion retailer Jack & Jones has closed its Exeter city centre store – barely two years after it opened.
The Danish-owned business acquired the 1,750 square foot store on the High Street in August 2012 as part of an expansion drive.
But the unit – between Specsavers Opticians and the vacant former Republic Store – is now empty after the shop shut its doors for the final time last week.
Exeter City Centre manager John Harvey, who confirmed the store's closure, admitted he was "disappointed" by the decision.
Figures published in April showed there were 44 empty units in the centre of Exeter - just over seven per cent of the total number of shops.
That number is around half the national average and below the city's closest rivals.
Mr Harvey said: "It's naturally disappointing to lose any retailer. But it's important to view the closure in the context of our low rate of shop vacancies and an overall positive picture of retail in Exeter.
"Business confidence is high, there is a lot of inward investment, and we are very much on track."
A number of jobs are likely to have been affected by the store closure – although the circumstances of the departure are unclear.
Jack & Jones was launched in 1989 and is sold in around 2,000 shops across Europe.
