Exeter Arena hosts an event for the first time in seven months this Sunday for the England Athletics South West Championships and Inter-Counties. Run by the South West Athletics Academy, it is the largest athletics championship in the region. The organisation received a record number of entries for the championships, which will see some of the best athletes in the South West competing. The venue was out of action for seven months due to refurbishment, now it will make a return with a big day for athletics. A host of Exeter Harriers athletes will be in action, including David Dawson, who will be looking to continue his form after throwing his season's best last weekend in the last league fixture of the season. Dawson finished second in the shot with 13.51m and fourth in the discus with a 43.75m. Ian Allen had a good start to the month with his performance at the South West Cup at Yeovil. Allen also recorded a season's best with a 1.70m leap in the high jump at the tournament at the beginning of the month. Allen also took home a gold medal from the British Masters Athletics Championships in Birmingham scoring a 1.65in the over 45 high jump. James Denne will feature in the 800m and 5,000m on the new track, he finished fourth with a time of 9.26 in the 3,000m B string at the league meeting on the weekend. James McLaren will also be running the 800m distance in the seniors. Owen Styler will compete alongside fellow Harrier Jordan Finch in the 100m and 200m sprints, Styler recorded a time of 11.10secs in the 100 and 22.67secs in the 200 in the league meeting Saturday. Clare Hodgson and Lucy Smith will be the two senior Harriers women competing in the Championships. Hodgson will run the 800m and 1,500m and Smith will throw in the javelin. In the under-20 men's section, Todd Allen will compete in the high jump after a best leap of 1.70m last time out in the A string event. In the long jump, Lewis Burges will want to set a good distance and Jack Webber is competing in the 100m and 200m sprints. Miranda Hardacre is the only woman from the Harriers in the under-20s age group, running the 200m. Hardacre was impressive in Yeovil two weeks ago, winning the 200m with a time of 26.57secs and the 400m with 59.18secs, putting her in good stead ahead of Sunday. Multi-eventer Dominic Allen will fight out the 100m hurdles and the javelin in the under-17s age group. Allen, younger brother of Todd, gave a good account of himself last weekend when he made the step up to the senior category, winning the B-string javelin with a throw of 51.84m. Jack Churchill will sprint the two short distance track events in the under-17s' 100 and 200 metres and Cameron Tapp is the middle distance runner in the age group running the 400 and 800m distances. Michael Thornton is competing in the 400m hurdles in the under-17 boys. Lily Mills will be throwing in the shot and javelin events in the under-17 girls.
