Tiverton and Honiton MP Neil Parish has welcomed new figures showing that 310 fewer people are relying on Jobseeker's Allowance in his constituency compared to this time last year, with the number of people in work in the South West up by 139,000 since 2010.
Since 2010 the number of people on unemployment benefits in Tiverton and Honiton is down by 371 – a 38 per cent drop.
Jobs are being created by companies such as Tiverton-based linear motion manufacturer HepcoMotion, who have launched an extensive apprenticeships programme.
Last month Mr Parish organised a Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair, held at the Honiton Community College to help school leavers and jobseekers find work and get careers advice to give young people the experience and skills they need to enter the workplace.
The MP said: "It's excellent news that since 2010 there are 371 fewer people in Tiverton and Honiton relying on Jobseeker's Allowance. That means more people with the prospect of a better and brighter future ahead of them.
"As these figures show the Conservatives' long-term economic plan is working, backing businesses like Axminster Tool and Machinery, Supacat and Aston Manor Brewery to create more jobs. We need to stick to that plan. It's the only way to ensure that we keep growing the economy and creating jobs, so that more families in Tiverton and Honiton can have the security of a job and a regular pay packet."
