Louis van Gaal's time as Netherlands coach might be over, but the 62-year-old is hoping to bring a touch of orange with him to Old Trafford for the upcoming season. Despite falling just short of taking the Dutch to a second-successive World Cup final, van Gaal departed his role as national coach with his head held high as he succeeded all expectations in Brazil. It all started with a 5-1 thrashing of defending champion Spain and, while Argentina beat them on penalties in their semi-final clash, a 3-0 victory over hosts Brazil ensured the Netherlands finished third. There is no rest for van Gaal however as he now turns his attentions to managing a Manchester United side who finished seventh in the Premier League last season. And while club management is an entirely different ball game to leading a nation, the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss wants his new charges to pick up where his Dutch starts let off. "I hope at Manchester United I can do my best," van Gaal said. "I will do my best. Whether that's enough for the fans I will wait and see, but I genuinely hope that will be the case. "I have top staff. They are great people. My players were even better. It was a great group. I hope the group in Manchester will become like this one. We have to sing from the same hymn sheet." Since van Gaal was announced as the new Red Devils manager, a number of his Dutch World Cup starts have unsurprisingly also been linked with following him to Old Trafford. However Arjen Robben, arguably the Netherlands' best player at the World Cup with three goals and one assist, has ruled out returning to England. "I have a special bond with van Gaal. He is the most important coach in my career," said former Chelsea winger Robben. "[Moving to United] is not an option though. I will stay at Bayern Munich."
