An angry boyfriend attacked his ex partner after learning she had changed her Facebook status to single when they split up. Lee Almond grabbed the victim by the throat and threw her around so violently she passed out and needed hospital treatment, Exeter Crown Court was told. He was upset after their volatile relationship ended and he discovered she had changed her Facebook page and made contact with another man. He felt so bad about what he had done that he called the police and went on to admit attacking victim Ruth Mullin on two previous occasions. Almond, aged 32, of Vansittart Road, Exmouth, admitted three offences of causing actual bodily harm and was jailed for 15 months and ordered to go on a 'building better relationships' course. Miss Janice Eagles, prosecuting, said Almond told police he grabbed his ex partner around the neck and banged her head, cutting her ear and causing her to lose consciousness briefly and be admitted to hospital for observation. He said he had assaulted her twice in the past, once in May 2013 when he had lost his job, and once after they had been drinking at her flat in South Street, Exmouth. Miss Eagles said:"He remained living at her home and became angry when she accessed Facebook and changed her relationship status to single and in response made contact with another man." Almond was not represented but asked the Judge to give him credit for his guilty plea and to take into account a probation pre sentence report and letters of reference. Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, told him:"I am able to suspend this sentence. I bear in mind that you informed the police about this incident and the previous assaults."
