Ruth Dixon of Hayward's Primary School in Crediton has attended a prestigious reception to celebrate winning a Pearson Teaching Award in 2014.
The event at the House of Commons was held to honour all those who have won a Silver Teaching Award in 2014 and celebrate exceptional teachers from across the UK.
Ruth won her trophy in the Award for Teacher of the Year in a Primary School category, after being shortlisted from a record number of more than 20,000 nominations made by grateful pupils, past and present, parents and colleagues.
Headteacher Steve Hitchcock said: "Ruth was one of only six primary school teachers to win nationally and she will be on a televised award programme on the BBC in the autumn. I think that is quite an achievement and good news story for our region."
Ruth will now join 59 fellow Silver Award winners at the UK final of the Teaching Awards at London's Guildhall on October 26, where 11 Silver Award winners will receive a Gold Award. The ceremony will be filmed and broadcast by the BBC.
Rod Bristow, president of core markets at Pearson, said: "Everyone can remember a teacher who inspired and challenged them so it's important to say thank you. It is great teaching that makes the biggest difference to learning and that's why great teachers must be recognised."
