The Labour Party has selected Lynne Richards as its Parliamentary candidate for Central Devon for the 2015 General Election.
She will contest the seat currently held by Tory Mel Stride.
Lynne said: "I am thrilled to have received the backing of the members in Central Devon to take on the challenge to return a Labour MP here in 2015.
"Central Devon is not immune to the impact of this Tory-led Government's cuts and decisions. People here worry about the rising cost of living, changes to their NHS services and access to good education for their children.
"I will be working hard over the coming months with our local party and the community to ensure that Central Devon has a Labour MP to be their voice on these issues come 2015."
Lisa Robillard-Webb, chair of Central Devon Labour party, said: "Lynne has shown us what a formidable campaigner she is and how determined she is to listen to local people.
"She understands the positive impact a Labour MP could have for Central Devon. She wants to represent ordinary people, like us, who live in rural areas, small market towns and villages. We are delighted to endorse her."
Lynne has lived in Devon for more than 25 years and within the constituency of Central Devon for more than 15. She has experience in local government, housing, higher education, commercial and charitable sectors working in health and social care and community development.
Until 2011, she was England director of a leading family charity with 330 local groups providing home-visiting volunteers to support 77,000 vulnerable children and their 35,000 families.
