Michael Ball, 42, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place, namely Station Road car park in Sidmouth on February 5.
He also admitted being in possession of a kitchen knife on the same date without good reason or lawful authority. He was committed to prison for 14 days.
Exeter magistrates said the offence was serious because it involved possession of a knife while drunk. The blade will be destroyed and there was no order for costs.
