A psychiatric nurse has denied fondling a woman patient in her hospital room and asking to have sex with her after her discharge home.
Carl Tinker was caring for the patient at a Devon hospital but befriended her and allegedly touched her after they held hands and kissed during a short shopping trip.
The woman told Exeter Crown Court she blamed herself for the sexual encounters and only realised what he had done was wrong when she undertook a university course years later.
Nursing assistant Tinker, aged 49, who now lives in Trinity Street, Huddersfield, denies three counts of sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder by a carer.
Mr Richard Crabb, prosecuting, said the offences took place after the woman attempted suicide and was admitted to hospital as a voluntary mental patient.
Mr Crabb said the charges relate to three incidents while she was a patient but there were two further encounters after she was discharged in which Tinker met her at home and in his car and there was further touching.
He said on the final occasion he had asked her to have sex with him but this had never happened and they had lost touch with each other.
She told family and friends at the time but only reported the case last year. Tinker was interviewed and denied any inappropriate touching.
Mr Crabb said:"We are concerned with an allegation that is mercifully quite rare. We are dealing with a situation in which a care worker took a sexual advantage of a psychiatric patient in his care."
The woman told the jury Tinker had been one of the nurses looking after her in hospital. They got on well but the first physical contact came when he accompanied her on a short visit to nearby shops.
She said he held her hand when they were out of sight of the hospital and kissed her, putting his tongue in her mouth.
She said the second incident happened as he was waking her and giving her morning medication and put a hand inside her pyjama top and touched one breast.
The former patient said the third incident at the hospital itself happened in the afternoon in her room where Tinker came in as she was brushing her hair.
She said:"He held the back of my head while he kissed me. I responded and kissed him back. He said he would have to stop doing this and could get into a lot of trouble. He said that a lot. He was very worried.
"Before I was discharged he gave me a CD and asked me to listen to a song called Because of You. I saw him again at home and there were lots of telephone calls.
"The first time me visited me at home he wore an ID badge because he was worried about being seen. He said it would look official if he was recognised."
She said he touched her sexually on that visit and grinded himself against her but they did not have full sex. On his next visit they went in his car to a beauty spot where she alleges he told her he wanted sex.
She said: "We talked in the car and he said it was doing his head in and it could not go on but he really wanted to f*** me. He had his left hand on the top of my leg, on my inside thigh.
"He drove me back to my house and there was further contact on the phone but I never met him again.
"I did not report it at the time because I felt I had encouraged it. I felt dirty and I was going through a really hard time in my life and I did not want to go through any more."
The trial continues

Exeter football club chairman reveals he was egged by Hamlin Lane Playing Fields travellers
A CLUB chairman has revealed how he was egged by a group of travellers during the warm up to a junior football match at the weekend.
The travellers that broke into Hamlin Lane Playing Fields on Friday, September 5, left on Saturday afternoon.
They left behind a scattering of litter, including dumped mattresses, bags of rubbish and needles were also found on the pitch.
The site has been secured and the clean-up operation began today.
But Stoke Hill AFC chairman Paul Howe, who runs the pitches on a 25 year lease from Exeter City Council, said he was hoping to put the whole episode behind them after his own unpleasant experience with the group on Saturday morning.
He said: "When the under 14s played on Saturday morning a group of children from the travellers came and disrupted the match by pulling out corner flags.
"I also had an egg thrown at me during the warm up.
"They were interfering to a degree but by 2.30pm on Saturday thankfully they had left."
The council were granted the possession order against 'persons unknown' by District Judge Collins at Exeter County Court today (Tuesday) after none of the travellers turned up to oppose it.
The Judge, who granted the order, said: "There has been no appearance by the person unknown and the information I have been given is that they have moved on."

Former Microsoft UK finance chief Stephen Harvey joins Exeter-based Blur Group
Former Microsoft executive Stephen Harvey has joined Blur Group as the tech firm's new chief financial officer. He will be based at the services-commerce pioneer's Exeter Science Park headquarters.
Having worked in the software sector for over 20 years, Stephen was CFO of Microsoft UK until 2004. He was an integral part of the team that led them to become the best performing division within Microsoft worldwide. He left Microsoft and became CFO of messaging firm Acision following its spin out from Logica Plc.
Stephen has spent the last three years working as a CFO internationally in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Barbara Spurrier, who has acted as Blur's CFO since February, will revert to her previous role as director of financial reporting.
Chief executive Philip Letts said: "Stephen brings with him considerable and broad experience, not just at CFO level but also in commercial and operational activities. I believe this combination will make him uniquely capable of helping us manage the company's growth whilst ensuring that we have the right financial systems, protocols and policies in place to deliver on our promise."
The appointment comes after Blur Group posted a loss of nearly £2.5 million for the first half of 2014 – almost double the deficit for the same period last year – while the number of businesses using its online platform to buy and sell services continued to grow rapidly.
Blur said the performance was in line with management's expectations, confirming that it expects to "move towards profitability within two years".
Mr Letts said: "Our business is growing and maturing in all aspects: technology, financial, governance, sales and management.
"In a year, we have quadrupled our revenue, trebled our bookings, completed a successful fundraising, kept our costs and headcount controls in line with our plan, and grown customer success through a 170 per cent value increase from repeat customers.
"With the appointment of Stephen I am confident that we now have in place all the elements required to manage our current and future growth and return value to our shareholders."
Mr Harvey said: "Blur is at an exciting stage in its development as it matures as a company, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with Philip and the team to drive the company forward, at both the business level and also with reference to its financial and reporting systems. I am confident my many years as a technology company CFO will be valuable to Blur as the company grows."
Mr Letts added: "The services market shows continuing and increasing acceptance of s-commerce, offering as it does great advantages for both buyer and supplier of speed, simplicity and security.
"The moves we have made to locate our global HQ in Exeter are paying off, with a stable team who, along with our experienced C-Suite, are delivering our planned operational leverage so we can scale without adding significant cost. We continue to grow internationally, especially in the US, and are attracting larger business customers ahead of plan.
"I am confident that we have in place all the elements required to manage our current and future growth and return value to our supportive shareholders."

Wife tells how strain of sharing home led to alleged Tiverton assault
A factory worker's partner has told a jury how they shared the same home for months after they split up because neither was willing to leave.
The woman told how the tension boiled over in a violent incident in which she believed her ex boyfriend was trying to sexually assault her.
She said she had also found three tablets in a cooking pot where she was making spaghetti Bolognese the night before the attack at her home in Tiverton.
Her partner, aged 39, who comes from Poland, denies battery with intent to commit a sexual assault but has admitted the lesser charge of simple battery at Exeter Crown Court.
The woman told the jury she met the perfume factory worker about nine years ago and they had a child together but their relationship broke up last summer.
She said they carried on living together in different rooms until November when she alleged he assaulted her after she went to his bedroom to confront him over the incident with the Bolognese sauce.
She alleged he had pinned her to the bed, pulled down her underwear, and rubbed himself against her before she screamed and escaped.
Under cross examination she denied trying to use complaints about her ex partner as a way of getting him out of the house, which the owned jointly.
She said:"The relationship ended in May or June but we agreed he would remain there and he did so until this happened in November. He had refused to move out."
She agreed there had been tension over her 19-year-old son bringing his 16-year-old home to stay the night with him and her ex-partner, who is a Roman Catholic, was so upset he complained to the police.
She denied using the allegations of assault against the man as a way of getting him out of their home.
She said:"I went to the police on two other occasions about his abusive behaviour. I can't remember when."

Items from alleged Exeter murder scene dumped in country lane, jury told
Property from a drug dealer's home was found in a country lane soon after he was allegedly robbed and stabbed to death, a jury have been told.
A dog walker found the victim's driving licence and other items strewn around the verge and police later recovered an empty cash box which had been dumped in a nearby field.
The property had been taken from a flat at Alphington Road in Exeter last November after part time mechanic Steven Crook was found dying from stab wounds.
Exeter Crown Court has heard the 43-year-old was also a drug dealer who knew one of the five men who are alleged to have planned and carried out a violent robbery.
The prosecution say former neighbour Steven Webster, who had moved from Exeter to Okehampton, helped four men from Coventry get into the flat where Mr Crook was stabbed ten times and died from loss of blood.
They say the men believed Mr Crook kept £20,000 in cash or drugs at the flat but the intruders only stole about £1,000 in cash and some jewellery belonging to him and his girlfriend Karlisa Beaumont.
The jury have been told the group went to Okehampton to buy drugs and then went to'celebrate' at the Spice Lounge restaurant in Exmouth and the Exeter Arms Hotel at Middlemoor, Exeter.
Steven Webster, aged 40, of East Street, Okehampton; Ryan Singleton, aged 26, of Howcotte Green, Canley, Coventry; Darren Twigger, aged 40, of John Rous Avenue, Canley; Bradley Richardson, aged 18, of Prior Deram Walk, Canley; and Anthony Martin, aged 22, of Gerard Avenue, Canley, all deny murder and robbery.
Paula Trevett, of the police major inquiry team, said passer-by Mrs Norma Spry had recovered a number of items from the area around the underpass beneath the A30 at Crabb Lane, near Ide, on the morning after the body was found.
The area where the items is found is close to the crime scene and is reached by heading out of Exeter and going down a lane close to the Sainsbury superstore and opposite West Exe Technology College.
She said items were recovered from grass verges either side of the road and included a pink handbag which was later identified by Miss Beaumont as having been taken from the flat.
Items recovered included a small silver heart pendant, a ladies watch, but no other jewellery. A driving licence in the name of Mr Crook was found in the bag.
She said other items from the house were recovered nearby.
She said:"On the left hand side was found a letter addressed to Mr Crook. There was also a blue tablet and a capsule and a green Rizla packet, which were identified by Karlina.
"A black cash box was found on the right just the other side of the fence across the grass verge. Further into the undergrowth there was a Trago Mills carrier bag which contained three mobile phones later identified by Miss Beaumont."

Retired newlywed couple from Ottery St Mary win £1m in the Lottery
A retired newlywed couple from the Ottery St Mary in Devon are celebrating after becoming millionaires.
Rodney Hancock, 64, and his wife Vanessa, 60, had just set out on a holiday of a lifetime traveling around the UK and Europe in their motorhome – with their pet parrot, Jasper. The pair were due to travel to Norfolk the morning after learning they had become the guaranteed winner in the EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle on Tuesday, 26 August,
Rodney, originally from Plymouth, said: "I got a notification on my phone to tell me I'd won, but assumed it was one of the smaller amounts. It was only two or three hours later when I checked on the computer and found out how much it was! I was in shock and didn't quite believe it until I phoned The National Lottery and they confirmed it.
"As we were driving the next day we couldn't do too much celebrating but have had a few small parties with family since."
The pair took time out from their holiday to have photos taken at Borigndon Hall in Plympton.
The couple met online last August and after a whirlwind relationship they married in January of this year. They have six children between them – three sons and three daughters. As well as clearing a few debts, ex-nurse Vanessa and retired van driver Rodney have already spent some of their winnings on a brand new BMW Coupé Roadster.
Rodney said: "We've wanted a new car for a while and thought about looking at some silly ones, but we had to remember that we'll be pulling it behind the motorhome on our holiday, so I suggested a BMW. It's great – a two-seater convertible."
The couple are both members of the Exeter Lions, part of the Lions International organisation and have called their round-Europe trip Two Lions and a Parrot on Tour! The Exeter Lions, are currently fundraising for the renovation of the 'Lion's Den' children's play area at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. The next leg of the tour is to explore Devon and Cornwall before heading to Spain and France when the weather starts to cool.
Rodney has played EuroMillions since it began and says he will continue to play. Every EuroMillions draw guarantees to make at least one UK player an instant millionaire. The couple's winning Raffle number was NRN735283.

Exeter coach firm will have to wait 'a few weeks' to learn its fate following appeal
THE owners of an Exeter coach firm will have to wait a few weeks to discover whether it can continue operating.
Founder and director of Carmel Coaches Tony Hazell and his son Michael face losing their operating licence if their appeal to the Upper Tribunal is unsuccessful.
The appeal hearing, held in London today, was told about a number of serious defects that had been found on vehicles used by the Marsh Barton company over the last three years.
The judge described the firm's maintenance as a "shambles." Among the issues raised was that brake defects had been reported eight times before something was done and a jammed emergency exit had not been fixed when it was flagged up.
The company's MOT rate of failure was also double the national average.
The judge was told the company had expanded too far and too fast since in recent years when it acquired two other companies Tedburn Coaches and Dawlish Coaches and added extra vehicles to its fleet.
Representing, Carmel Coaches at the hearing, Tim Nesbitt, said that jobs were at stake if the company lost its licence.
He argued that it would be more proportionate to set a limit of the number of vehicles the firm operates.
The operating licence was taken away shortly after a fatal coach crash in Cornwall following safety concerns that had been raised over a number of years. The Traffic Commissioner said the crash did not have any impact on her decision.
The owners were initially told they must stop operating from July 31 but appealed and were allowed to continue operating - including carrying out several school runs in Devon – ahead of the hearing.
A final judgment following today's hearing is now expected to be made within a few weeks.
Mr Hazell said if he loses the appeal around 50 jobs will be at risk. He described the original decision as "harsh" and said he was in confident mood ahead of the appeal. He said: "We are hopeful about the appeal as we feel the licence shouldn't have been revoked in the first place. The initial decision was a bad one – and we are hopeful that the tribunal will see it as such."

Rugby: Wessex coach pleased as his side start Devon One season in good form
Wessex coach Dean Jeffery feels his side are in the best possible shape for the Devon One opener at home to Totnes this Saturday.
Wins over New Cross and Topsham in the RFU National Vase have been the ideal preparation for league action.
"They were two tough games and best of all we came through them without any serious injuries," said Jeffery.
"Friendlies are fine up to a point – we had a useful one against Honiton – but you can't beat something with a competitive edge.
"We have had two difficult games against local opposition and come through with flying colours."
Wessex were 6-5 up at half-time against Topsham thanks to a couple of Andy Alderman penalties either side of a Ben Rudkin try.
Tries by Sam Carpenter and John Horwill, plus an Alderman conversion, put Wessex into the Devon final of the Vase, where they will play Old Technicians.
Topsham will want to put the derby defeat by Wessex behind them when they go to Plymouth Argaum in Devon One.
Tops have happy memories of Bickleigh Down – they won 18-11 there in the final game last season to lift the Devon Junior Vase – but less than happy ones of the defeat by Wessex.
"To be honest I am glad to be out of the national competition as we can concentrate on the league and the Devon Cup," said director of rugby Colin Milkins.
"Availability is a problem for us and the more games we have to fit in the harder it becomes.
"We had to make a number of changes against Wessex, which was not ideal against a side who are always up for it.
"It was pretty clear some of our lads hadn't been training enough as they didn't know our plays and patterns.
"Our line-out was shocking and our tacking terrible – the worst I can remember."
Topsham should have a bit more direction outside with the return of Ricky Pellow at scrum-half.
And the pack ought to be beefed up by the reappearance of Jack Knowles and Rupert Stanning.

Exeter woman picked for England squad
A woman from Exeter says it is a huge honour to represent England at Australian Rules Football.
Caroline Abbott was one of 16 women to be picked for the first national women's squad following a trials day at Chippenham.
"The women's game is developing rapidly," said Abbott. "I'm happy that an England women's team has been set up while I'm still young and fit enough to be part of it.
"It's a huge honour to be involved and I can't wait to see if we can emulate the success of our men's team, the England Dragonslayers, who won last year's Euro Cup."
The England Vixens' first tournament will be the Euro Cup in London on Saturday, October 4, which is being held alongside the men's tournament at the new London Irish Rugby Club facilities.
Abbott, 30, said: "We're all really excited to be making history by representing England women on the international stage for the first time.
"Last year, I played in the Euro Cup in Bordeaux, France, for the European Crusaders, a team made up of women from various countries without a national Aussie rules side. We beat France in the only women's match.
"This year, there will be women's teams from England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Sweden and Denmark."
