Devon MP Ben Bradshaw became a scientist for the day when he took part in experiments at the University of Exeter's laboratories.
Mr Bradshaw, MP for Exeter, conducted a series of experiments with physicist Dr Annette Plaut to learn more about some of the university's scientific research.
It was part of a pairing scheme that began in October when Dr Plaut spent a week shadowing Mr Bradshaw.
Dr Plaut said: "It's crucial that policymakers take an interest in science, as they make key decisions on issues such as funding, in a sector key to the economy of tomorrow."
Mr Bradshaw said: "It was fascinating to find out more about this research and to meet staff and students. I have always been interested in the evidence-based approach and the relationship between science and politics, and my partnership with Annette means I can explore that further."
