Cullompton head coach Chris Wall can't see a way to avoid relegation from South West One West this season after the 33-12 Devon derby loss at Bideford.
Defeat left Cullompton 23 points adrift of safety with 30 to play for.
And, while they might get off the bottom of the table, finishing outside the bottom three looks a hopeless task.
"I think we have to accept the inevitable, which is that we are going to be relegated," said Wall.
"Losing to Bideford didn't push us over the brink, it has been our lack of results stretching back several months.
"We have not had consistency of selection and have found it difficult to win games with unsettled sides."
Wall said the defeat at Bideford was one of the low points of the season as Cullompton didn't get into the game until it was too late.
"In the first half we looked like a side that didn't want to know," said Wall. "A few harsh words were said during half-time, and eventually they had an effect.
"It took us 70 minutes to work out that if we worked through the phases and looked after the ball, we might score a try.
"I counted 13 phases in the move that led to the first try – and suddenly we got a bit of confidence back.
"Then we scored another try by doing something much the same. It was great to see, but with 10 minutes to go it was way too late.
"It seemed we only started to play when there was nothing left to lose.
"This season has gone for us now, but we have six games left to start building for next year and playing better rugby."
Bideford used their men outside to score three of the four tries that helped them into a 28-point lead midway through the second half.
Cullompton's first try was scored by Adam Morris as he dived over after Bideford ran out of defenders.
Matt Garner's offload then led to Sean Mardell bagging a second try, which Garner converted.
Bideford completed their scoring with a late push-over try.
