A new roundabout on a major Exeter commuter route looks set to go ahead in spite of objections from residents.
The city council has received 62 objections from residents about the proposed roundabout on Hill Barton Road which would provide access to a development of 750 new homes which form part of the 2,500 homes planned for Monkerton/Hill Barton.
Originally it was intended to have traffic lights on the new junction but as the number of homes proposed has increased highways officers have said that a three-arm roundabout would be preferable in terms of road safety.
However some residents have said that they don't feel a roundabout is appropriate in residential areas because they are inconvenient for pedestrians and hazardous for cyclists.
Some were also concerned that it would make congestion worse and would make exiting Leypark Road more difficult.
Planning officers are recommending approval, saying that it is an improvement on the traffic lights which were originally planned.
The issue is to be discussed by Exeter's planning committee on Monday, March 2.
