A farmer has been ordered to pay £500 compensation after a late night fracas at Hatherleigh Market.
Marcus Cobb caused minor injuries to fellow farmer Philip Cleave after the incident after an event at the market earlier this year.
Cobb, aged 28, of Jacobstowe, near Okehampton, admitted causing actual bodily harm and was jailed for four months, suspended for a year.
He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation and do 120 hours unpaid work by Recorder Mr James Freeman at Exeter Crown Court.
Mr James Taghdissian, prosecuting, said the assault happened at around 1. am after an event at the market attended by both men and resulted in the victim suffering bruising.
Mr Rupert Taylor, defending, said Cobb regretted his actions and had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
