One carriageway of the A38 near Exeter remains closed this afternoon following a crash in which a driver was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
The incident at around 9.20am involved one vehicle coming down Haldon Hill on the A38 towards the city.
A police spokesman said: "It appears a vehicle has come down the hill just past the racecourse and gone into the woods."
Both carriageways were closed while an air ambulance took the injured driver to hospital.
The Plymouth-bound carriageway has since re-opened, but the Exeter-bound side remains closed with a diversion in operation via the A380.
Drivers were warned to expect 'significant delays' in the area.
