SEAGULL sacks are to remain free of charge to householders.
The sacks, which are a deterrent to seagulls picking through rubbish bags, were introduced by the city council for those areas which are unsuitable for wheelie bins.
Although the city council is changing its charging policy for bins it will not be charging for the special sacks and this was confirmed at the most recent meeting of the city council's scrutiny community committee when Simon Hill, the council's cleansing and fleet manager said that the sacks were not included in the charging as they wanted people to accept the sacks. He added that the sacks were more likely to go missing than break so should last indefinitely.
