Ian Whitten thinks Exeter Chiefs' players have to back up their wins in the European Challenge Cup when they return to LV= Cup duty this weekend. Fresh from booking their place in the last eight of the continental competition, the Sandy Park have the chance to qualify for the semi-finals of the Anglo-Welsh cup on Sunday. If Harlequins fail to beat Bath, a win for Exeter against Newport Gwent Dragons on Sunday (2.30pm) will put the defending champions in the last four once more. If not, they will have one more chance to go through when they travel to Saracens on February 8. "We're going to attack the LV hard this weekend," said Whitten. "It's an opportunity for a few players to give it a real rattle – and I'm sure there will be boys pushing hard to show what they can do. "We've had two really good wins in Europe and now we've got to try and back it up in the LV, so that we can keep building momentum and get back on another big winning streak." Exeter have already beaten Gloucester and Bath at home in this season's LV= Cup to sit top of Pool Four but face two tough games away from home, with the front-line players likely to be rested en masse. However, having ended their four-game losing streak with back-to-back wins against Connacht and Bayonne in Europe, Whitten hopes they can keep their form going. "I think we needed those two games," he said. "Thankfully we came away with two big results and that in itself gives us confidence moving forward. "We had a tough period in the Premiership prior to those two games – and we had some tough losses to take – so it was important to get those wins behind us."
