An environmentally friendly pavilion is being built at a long-standing cricket club in Devon.
Heathcoat Cricket Club, based in the grounds of the National Trust's Knightshayes Court near Tiverton, is currently constructing the pavilion using locally sourced materials and companies.
The club, which was founded in the 1920s, has collaborated with the trust on the pavilion, which it hopes will be environmentally friendly while respecting the historical importance of Knightshayes Court. Club chairman John Smith said: "We've been able to call on the knowledge and resources of the trust to help us develop our plans and create a final product that fits, is built with wood sourced from the estate, and will look smashing when it's finished!"
The new pavilion is making use of timber from the surrounding garden at Knightshayes.
The woodland endured severe storms last May and later damage by a fungus-caused disease called 'butt rot' resulted in the controlled felling of a large number of trees.
This material has been used in the construction of the pavilion.
The building is to offer events and opportunities, particularly for the encouragement of health and wellbeing, for visitors and the local community.
The project also employs local workers and members from the club are offering their professional services for free.
The pavilion is due to be finished in the spring.
