FENITON Parish Council has written to East Devon District Council with a string of concerns about the flood water drainage tanks installed by a developer currently building dozens of homes in the village.
Wainhomes is currently building 50 homes off Louvigny Close and has submitted a planning application for 31 more.
As previously reported by the Echo, the developer complied with a breach of condition notice issued by the district council for failing to install flood water drainage tanks for its 50 home development.
In the interim, Wainhomes installed temporary tanks.
The developer also submitted a revised solution for the tanks, because the site where they had planned to build them was at the site of their 31-home proposals.
The council previously warned that there was a "very real threat" to Feniton becoming more vulnerable to flooding if Wainhomes did not "urgently" install the two attenuation tanks for the drainage system, near the development on Louvigny Close, for surface water run-off to relieve flooding. The tanks were a condition of the council's original approval of the scheme and were finally installed in December by the deadline given.
Now, parish council chairman, Councillor Martyn Smith, has written to the district council's planning department, the authority's engineers and its legal department, as well as the Environment Agency and Tiverton and Honiton MP Neil Parish, with concerns about the associated Flood Risk Assessments associated with the developments.
The parish council is concerned flooding problems could be exacerbated in the village.
In his letter he said that the council has "very serious concerns and doubts" about the revised drainage strategy submitted by Wainhomes.
Attached to his letter was a review, undertaken by a chartered civil engineer on behalf of the parish council, which, he said, "raises a number of questions that we believe must be answered before we can have any confidence in the drainage strategy working".
A district council spokesperson, said the council is giving the matter "serious consideration".
Councillor Smith, added: "Flooding, is the biggest issue that Feniton has had to face over the last decade or more and that many people have been put out of their houses because of inundation.
"The run-off from the Wainhomes site has significantly contributed to the flooding problem and is the first point of concern for the flood wardens of the village during heavy rain.
"Feniton Parish Council takes this matter very seriously and therefore reserve their position as to what action they take in the future if this drainage strategy goes ahead without the district council undertaking a full and proper investigation and land or property is damaged in any way, by run-off or diversion from the Wainhomes site."
A spokesperson for Wainhomes declined to comment.
