In Court: Cases heard at Central Devon Magistrates' Court

April Thomas, 18, of Bethany House, Exeter, was given a community order after assaulting a man. On September 17 she attacked a man in Exeter, causing him actual bodily harm. On September 17 she stole denim trousers, to the value of £12.99, belonging to Store Twenty One. On September 8 she stole a product, of an unknown value, belonging to Mansons Guitar Shop in Exeter. Miss Thomas was given a community order including a requirement to participate in a programme called Engage for 10 days. She was also fined £60. Jeremy Wilkins, 30, of Pinnex Moor, Tiverton, was given a suspended prison sentence after assaulting a woman. On November 24, 2013, he assaulted the woman by beating her in Tiverton. He also damaged a kitchen drawer handle, to the value of £8.39. On July 4, 2014, he failed to surrender to custody at Exeter Magistrates' Court, having been released on bail. On October 30, 2014, he broke a bail condition by making indirect contact with the assault victim. On November 17 he failed to surrender to custody at Exeter Magistrates Court, having been released on bail. Mr Wilkins was committed to prison for 15 weeks, suspended for 12 months. The reason for custody was that the offence took place in the domestic setting with violence in the presence of children. He was also fined £238.39. Piotr Zolnowski, 24, of no fixed abode, was fined after committing offences in Tiverton. On July 8, 2014, he stole a bottle of win and DVD, to the value of £18, belonging to Tesco. He was also guilty of disorderly behaviour, while drunk. On August 14, 2014, he failed to surrender to custody at Exeter Police Station, having been released on bail. He also admitted breaching a conditional discharge for 12 months. Mr Zolnowski was fined £15. Martin Hoskin, 40, of Byron Way, Exmouth was fined after an original offence was reopened under section 142 of the Magistrates Court Act 1980. On March 8, 2014, in Exmouth he drove a Vauxhall Vivaro at a speed exceeding 30mph on a restricted road, namely Exeter Road. Mr Hoskin was fined £60. In light of the defendant's mitigation, justices offered the fixed penalty notice equivalent. Tristan Locke, 25, of Chelmsford Road, Exeter was given a suspended prison sentence after being found in possession of a knife in public while under the influence of drugs. On October 27, 2014, he found in a public place, namely the stairwell of Jubilee Court, Queen Street, Exeter, with a silver knife. On November 11, 2014, he failed to surrender to custody at North and East Devon Magistrates Court, having been released on bail. Mr Locke was committed to prison for eight weeks, suspended for 12 months. The offence was deemed 'so serious' because it happened in public and the defendant was under the influence of drugs. He was also fined £80. Curtis Soutar, 28, of Belmont Terrace, Exeter was given a suspended prison sentence after committing a number of offences. On November 21, 2014, in Exeter he stole a box of 15 bottles of Stella Artois lager, to the value of £9, belonging to Tesco. He also was found to have breached a conditional discharge for previous offences. Mr Soutar was committed to prison for six weeks, suspended for 12 months. The reasons for custody was that the defendant was deemed a 'prolific shoplifter' and had offended on a court order. He had convictions for similar offences and breaches of court orders. He was put under a 12-month a 12-month supervision order, during which he had to participate in an alcohol-specific activity for 10 days. He was also fined £80. Elaine Sharp, 45, of Brimpenny Road, Exmouth admitted assaulting a man in the town. On November 17, 2014, he assaulted Paul Charles by beating him. The offence was discharged conditionally for 12 months. Miss Sharp was fined £115. Aaron Bridle, 24, of Causey Lane, Pinhoe, Exeter was banned from driving after being convicted of speeding. On March 21, 2014, he drove a Ford Transit van on the A38 in Devon at a speed exceeding the limit. Mr Bridle was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for six months, due to repeat offending. He was also fined £210 and his licence was endorsed with three points. Ian Shaddick, 26, of Batavia Drive, Exeter was banned from driving after failing to provide police with information about a driver. On April 28, 2014, he did not give information relating to the identify of a Peugeot 206 driver, who was allegedly guilty of an offence. Mr Shaddick was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months, due to repeat offending. His licence was endorsed with six months and he was fined £745. Jake Warren, 20, of Bennett Square, Exeter was banned from driving after using a vehicle unfit for the road. On May 12, 2014, at M5 junction 28 Cullompton services he used a small passenger vehicle that had illegal tyres. He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for 12 months, due to repeat offending. His licence was endorsed with three points and he was fined £100. Gemma Small, 38, of Mossop Close, Ottery St Mary, Devon was banned from driving after committing offences. On August 19, 2014, in Exeter she drove a Ford Focus while disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence and without an adequate policy of insurance. These offences were discharged conditionally for six months. On August 18, 2014, she was also found in possession of 4.89g of cannabis and cannabis resin – a controlled class B drug. An order was made for the drugs to be forfeited. She was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for three days. She was also fined £100.
