Despite the wet and windy start to Saturday there was heavy traffic heading into the city centre as sales shoppers hoped to grab a bargain.
Many stores opened on Boxing Day, while others left it until this morning to reopen after Christmas.
While many will grab a sales bargain online, the traditional Christmas sale is still proving popular in the High Street, according to store bosses.
Exeter's city centre manager John Harvey said queues formed outside several city stores early on Boxing Day.
Among the early openers was Next, at 6am.
Mr Harvey said: "It's important for the city centre economy that we have a good post Christmas sales period.
"It's important to carry the momentum through to the New Year and it is important in terms of business and consumer confidence."
