Flora Bliss, who has Down's syndrome, has been awarded the Outstanding Learner prize at her school. Flora, who lives in Exeter, is a third year student at Foxes Academy in Minehead, the hotel and catering residential college for young people with learning disabilities. It celebrated its students' achievements with an end-of-term award ceremony to recognise star learners. Sharon Bowden, Principal, hosted the presentations with the trophies given out by directors Sue Jenkins and Maureen Tyler-Moore MBE. Flora is flourishing in her third year at Foxes Academy in Minehead, Somerset, where she is studying for a hospitality and catering NVQ. She trains in Foxes Hotel, a beautiful seaside hotel open to the general public, and lives a semi-supported flat which she shares with two other learners. Principal Sharon Bowden commented that Flora's award was given in recognition that "she could organise and take care of herself and her flatmates. Her excellent independent living skills enable her to budget, shop, cook her meals and clean her own living accommodation. As Flora prepares to move on from the Academy next July I know she will be a great asset to any employer in the hospitality industry within her local community."
