A body has been recovered from the River Exe after a man went missing with his dog. The 78-year-old was pulled from the water by the RAF Search and Rescue Helicopter RMB Chivenor near Waldrons, in Tiverton, at 12.15am on Wednesday, January 9. The alarm was raised at 8.45pm on Tuesday evening after a Tiverton man failed to return home after walking his dog. A relative contacted emergency services after becoming worried. The Chivenor crew joined Exmoor's Search and Rescue Team and police in recovering the body from the River Exe. After over three hours of searching, a body was found in the River Exe. The helicopter hovered over the river while lowering a winchman to the water. Formal identification has not yet taken place, although the body is understood to be that of the missing man. His next of kin have been informed. Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious but confirmed it is "unexplained". The dog has been recovered unharmed and returned to the man's family.
