Over 100 cycling Santas pedalled between Topsham and Exmouth on Saturday, all to raise money for FORCE Cancer charity. Among those taking part were mother and son Caroline Andrews and five-year-old William who live in Cranbrook. Mrs Andrews' father had been supported by the charity and they thought it would be a fun way of supporting the charity. Mrs Andrews said: "They were fantastic when dad was ill and it is nice to give something back. The six mile cycle was not daunting for William as he has already cycled that distance. Also taking part were 'We Three Kings' – in other words David, Katy and eight-year-old Harriet King from Exeter. The family do the longer FORCE cycle run in the summer and have been long time supporters of the charity. There was also a contingent from cycle group Beers, Gears and Engineers. The group started at what was then Howmet, now Alcoa, in 2007 and the company supports any fundraising that the group undertakes. For the Santa cycle the company's foundation had donated £1,000. All those taking part in the cycle were returning to Exeter via boat. The event was sponsored by Stuart Line Cruises, Mike Sanders of the Bike Shed and Exeter solicitors, the Family Law Company. Jane Chanot, a director of the Family Law Company said: "FORCE has been our chosen charity for the last four years. "We feel that it is something that affects everyone in some way and by supporting this local charity we are supporting the community." Sarah Daniels, FORCE head of fundraising, said: "This event is a real family affair with the emphasis firmly on festive fun to get everyone who takes part into the Christmas spirit".
