Exeter City crashed out of the FA Cup at the first round stage for eighth time in 10 seasons as they lost 1-0 away at Warrington Town.
A goal from Craig Robinson was enough to win it for the non-league club, who play four divisions below City in the football pyramid.
Paul Tisdale made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 at home to Luton Town on Saturday as Liam Sercombe and David Noble came in for Arron Davies and Jimmy Koehane. That meant City lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, with Scot Bennett, Graham Cummins and David Wheeler starting up front.
A fired up Warrington started the game brightly and had a couple of efforts at goal from Scott Metcalfe early on - the second of which saw his shot from the edge of the box cannon off Danny Butterfield for a corner.
That corner was then played into the near post where Robinson flicked a header towards goal that defected off Cummins and into the back for net.
It was just the start City had feared and for the next 10 minutes the home side looked the better side.
City started to get control of the game around 20 minutes into the match though shortly after Graham Cummins was had a chance to level the scores when Matt Doughty sliced a clearance into his path. Warrington keeper Karl Wills came to the home side';s rescue on that occasion as he was quickly off his line to block the City player's shot.
Further chances fell to Scot Bennett, Cummins and Matt Grimes in the first half, but David Noble had City's best effort when he hit a shot from just inside the box that struck the Warrington crossbar.
Cummins then glanced a header wide from Christian Ribeiro's cross at the start of the second half before Liam Sercombe curled a free-kick just wide of the top left-hand corner of the goal.
City continued to press the Warrington defence for the majority of the second half and their best chance to equalise fell to Sercombe midway through the half when Grimes fed a ball into his feet in the box, but he somehow screwed his shot wide of the near post from close range.
At this stage Warrington were getting back in numbers though and putting their bodies on the line to block shots from substitute Jimmy Koehane and Bennett.
Phil Davies also booted a ball off the goal-line as the impressive Grimes hit an angled drive at goal from a corner.
In the end, despite all their chances, City could not find a way past the home defence and - although they perhaps deserved a replay from the game - ended up on the wrong end of a shock cup defeat.
