Works are due to start on 3 November 2014 to replace the traffic signals at the Acorn junction in Exeter which have reached the end of their serviceable life.
This is the junction of Western Way, Holloway Street, Magdalen Street and South Street.
The County Council will be replacing all signals, poles and electrics. All pedestrian facilities at the junction will be replaced and pedestrian crossings over Western Way and South Street will be upgraded to cycle crossings to link in with adjacent cycle routes in those areas.
The works will take approximately 3 to 4 weeks with temporary traffic signals in place during this period.
Temporary signals are less sophisticated and cannot facilitate for pedestrian crossings so there may be increased delays to motorists and pedestrians during the work.
Cabinet member with responsibility for Highway Management, Stuart Hughes says; "This is a busy junction and the need for up to date technology complete with improved pedestrian crossings and cycle crossings is important. I know that our highway officers will do their best to keep traffic moving as best as possible and we thank the public in advance for their patience while we carry out this vital work."
County Councillor for St David's & St James Jill Owen says; "The outcome of these changes will be an improvement for all, but meanwhile I hope pedestrians will take extra care when crossing the road at or near this junction while work is going on."
