Willand Rovers saw their incredible FA Cup run brought to a halt following a 3-1 loss to Conference South side Gosport Borough at Silver Street on Saturday. Two goals shortly before the break did the damage, with Mike Carter finishing from close range before Matt Paterson added an excellent second. Steve Ramsay made it 3-0 for the visitors early in the second half, but Willand pulled one back straight away through Luke Alden to keep the tie alive. But their dreams were all but ended when Luke Durham saw red late on for a soft second yellow card, leaving Rovers on damage-limitation mode for the remainder of the match. After an even start, it was the visitors who started to take control of things, with Justin Bennett shooting just wide before WiIland were forced to hack a corner off their own goal line. Bennett was then left with his head in his hands after nodding wide from five yards, before Kurtis Parkin pulled off a fine save to deny Dan Wooden. Just as it looked like Rovers had weathered the storm the visitors opened the scoring as Carter fired home following decent work by Wooden. And they doubled the advantage four minutes later as Paterson instinctively fired home hard and low across Parkin after some neat build-up play. Willand started the second half brightly, only for Ramsey to bundle home from a corner to make it 3-0, with referee Simon Knapp ignoring appeals for a foul on Parkin. Rovers responded immediately as Alden lashed home right-footed from the edge of the box, but Durham's soft red after going up for a header moments later immediately stymied their momentum. Paterson and Carter both missed presentable chances as Borough sat back and hit Willand on the counter, before substitute Adam Wilde drilled a super volley just wide. A crowd of 892 packed into Silver Street to witness the end of Rovers' incredible FA Cup run, and there was no shame in seeing it ended by a capable Gosport side, who now go through to the first round proper. Willand Rovers: Parkin, Orchard, Stamp, Martin, Hill, Steele, Wadham, Ingham, Blake, Durham, Alden. Attendance:/b> 892
