This award winning photo shows the moment a seagull was caught in a shower of ocean foam.
The image, taken by landscape architect Nick Harrison, has been selected to promote the South West ahead of a major international sporting event.
The picture was one of a number depicting quintessential Westcountry scenes that were entered into the Heart of Devon (HoD) photography competition over the summer.
In addition to a £100 voucher and a half-day shoot with a professional photographer, the winner will see their image used to promote the region in the run up to the Rugby World Cup which comes to Exeter in 2015.
Mr Harrison, from Manchester, took the winning picture while visiting Devon to drop his daughter Charlotte back to university in Exeter.
"I took the photo during a family walk on the beach at Dawlish Warren. The sea was quite strong and I spotted the bird perched close to the crashing waves and grabbed a photo," he explained.
"I had taken quite a few pictures on our visit but that one just stood out as being a bit different. It wasn't a scene you could just walk up and take, it was a fleeting moment of luck."
A passionate photographer, Mr Harrison said it was "amazing" to know his image would be used to promote the county.
"It's such a nice part of the country so we always try and spend a few days there when we visit Charlotte," he said.
"I'm hoping she will be able to spot my photograph around the city and let me know."
The HoD tourism partnership promotes East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon and parts of Teignbridge to regional and national audiences.
It launched the competition in July, asking members of the public to submit pictures that captured the "uniqueness" of Devon.
The contest was run on Twitter and Instagram using the handle @HeartofDevon and the hashtag "myhod moment".
Victoria Hatfield, from the HoD tourism partnership, said the organisation had been "delighted with the response and quality of images".
"The competition got people talking on Twitter and Instagram and it was lovely to see people sharing their holiday memories," she said.
"We had everything from photos of Tiverton Balloon Festival and the Dawlish Air Show, to family time on the beach and romantic sunsets.
"I love Nick's photo of the seagull," she added. "It really stands out."
