The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of wind for the whole of Devon as Hurricane Gonzalo reaches our shores. According to forecasts, today will see wet and windy conditions across the county The strongest winds are expected as the rain clears eastwards. Gusts of 40-50, locally more than 50 mph are likely inland, with 60 to 70 mph gusts in some exposed coastal areas, locally higher on hills and headlands. The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel and possible damage to trees. This is a further update of the warning first issued on Saturday. A Met Office spokesperson said: " A deep depression is affecting the UK with strong winds in its circulation, and there remains the potential for disruption to travel, especially as heavy showers run through, increasing the gust strength. "Fallen leaves impeding drainage increases the risk of surface water affecting roads, while some damage to trees is possible, given that many are still in full leaf." The warning was issued today and extends until 8pm tonight.
