DEVON County chess champion Dr Tim Paulden will be flying the flag for Exeter next week in the Millionaire Chess Open in Las Vegas – the highest-stakes open chess tournament in history.
Competition is set to be fierce, with more than 500 players from 42 different countries battling it out for a slice of an unprecedented $1million prize fund.
Tim, 33, first picked up chess as a child from playing against his grandfather, and decided to return to the game in 2009 by joining Exeter Chess Club.
Since then he has climbed rapidly up the rankings, winning this year's Devon Individual Championship, and receiving the title of Regional Master from the English Chess Federation.
The Millionaire Chess Open runs from October 9 to 13 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, with all results appearing on the official tournament website, millionairechess.com
