Exeter fire crews rescued an elderly lady in the early hours of this morning after a fire broke out at her home.
Crews from both Exeter's Middlemoor and Danes Castle stations raced to the second floor flat on Vaughan Road off Whipton Road at 2.05am this morning.
They arrived to find the pensioner collapsed in her kitchen where there had been a small fire involving cooking materials.
Crews had been alerted to the incident thanks to fire alarms at the property.
The fire was out upon their arrival.
Crews inspected the flat and called an ambulance for the lady who was suffering from fall injuries.
The lady was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for treatment.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
