I WAS shocked and saddened to read in the Express & Echo about the young mother who was mown down by the driver of a mobility scooter as she sat with her children on the Quay in Exeter (Mum tells of mobility scooter hit & run, September 18.)
Injury to the back can often be very serious and the pain can last a long time. It was very fortunate that her little children were not injured as well, but it was still very frightening for all concerned. I hope the lady will make a full recovery.
I really feel that such incidents as this indicate that people who have these scooters should have some instruction as to how to handle the machine before venturing into public places and causing accidents like this. The way in which the driver continued on his way with no noticeable regard to the lady who was injured was not good. Surely he should have stopped to see how she was, not continued on his way.
I hope the young mother will make a full recovery. I also hope that users of mobility scooters should get to know about the vehicle before going out in public places.
