Sampford Peverell A Team captain Alfie Flatters is celebrating after leading the side to their first ever Exeter & District League Division One title. Flatters' side fended off the challenge of Victoria Park A to land the top title for the first time since joining the league more than 30 years ago. Despite Sampford Peverell losing their first two matches of the season, an incredible run of 12 straight wins led them to victory. And Flatters believes that the team's aggressive all-or-nothing style was central to their success. "I think our play has been quiet bold at times and we really rolled the dice at times this season," he said. "We really went for the jackpot in a few matches and it was great to see it pay off. "We actually lost our first two matches but then went on to win our last 12, so we went on a great run of form. "We don't have the biggest pool of players to choose from and I think we were just missing a few early on. We still had people away at university or on holiday, but once we got everyone back, we hit a really good run of form. "We also had lots of players step up from the B team and play a couple of games, so that was good to see." The team will now progress to the Vernon Weaver Trophy to be held in Exmouth, where top sides from the leagues in North Devon, South Devon and East Devon will also feature.
