Head coach Rob Baxter will run the rule over 35 of his Exeter Chiefs players in their first pre-season clash with Cardiff Blues.
That includes all eight of his summer signings, who have been named in the squad for Friday evening's match at the Arms Park (7.30pm).
The Chiefs have picked one side for the first half and another for the second 40 minutes, with five replacements.
Former London Welsh lock Mitch Lees and ex-Bristol three-quarter Adam Hughes start the game.
Fellow new arrivals Thomas Waldrom, Ryan Caldwell, Chrysander Botha and Tomas Francis have been named in the team to start the second half, with prop Moray Low and hooker Elvis Taione set to play about a third of the game from the bench.
Baxter has been impressed with his summer signings to date, but is looking forward to seeing them in action for the first time.
"I'm really pleased with how the new signings have settled in, the work ethic they've shown and how they've settled in off the rugby field," he said. "Now we get to see what they're really like on a rugby pitch.
"It's a great opportunity for those guys, I'm sure they'll fit in fine. They're bound to take a bit of time, but I have no doubt they'll fit in pretty seamlessly from what I've seen so far."
As well as the new boys looking to impress, every player will want to show they have taken on board what the squad have been working on in pre-season.
With the trip to South Wales being the first of pre-season, followed by away games against Ulster and Worcester, Baxter is not expecting things to be perfect from the start.
"First and foremost you want to see energy and enthusiasm to play, which you kind of always get in the first pre-season game," he said.
"On top of that you're looking for some of the organisation that we've worked on. You don't expect to see that at 100 per cent but you expect to see more than glimpses of it – you expect to see us running some decent patterns, some decent defensive formations and our set-piece to be effective.
"Other than that it's about letting them get out and play some rugby and giving them confidence to enjoy playing in that contact environment because most of what you work on in pre-season has limited contact.
"Normally your defence looks better than it does in training because the players get the opportunity to make proper tackles and win turnovers and your attack looks more stressed because you're having to win proper contact at the breakdown.
"It's more about getting the guys up and running, and getting them playing with a tempo and a structure within that contact environment."
However, Baxter also insisted the result is important as he wants his players to treat the warm-up clash, against the side they beat home and away in last season's Heineken Cup, as a serious match.
That means he wants them to make the same decisions they would if the pressure was on in an Aviva Premiership contest, not take the game lightly.
"I think the result does matter. We always say to our guys 'let's approach it like it's a league game'," said Baxter. "We're not going to tell them to kick to the corner from every penalty, we want them to make decisions within playing a game of rugby.
"The result is not the be-all and end-all because we're playing 30 players and there are different combinations in there. If you ran for one side for 80 minutes the result may be different.
"I would like to think we'd put in a very good performance and we'll see some strong displays from a number of players who have had very good pre-seasons."
While all eight signings will feature against the Blues, a host of players will be missing.
That includes the likes of skipper Dean Mumm, England ace Jack Nowell, prop Brett Sturgess and hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie, who are all injured. Fetu'u Vainikolo is also not involved.
Tom James, James Scaysbrook and Sireli Naqelevuki are not included either, as their bodies mean they are not suited for playing on Cardiff's artificial surface.Exeter Chiefs, first half: Dollman; Arnott, Whitten, Hill, Hughes; Steenson, Chudley; Rimmer, Yeandle, Brown, Lees, Welch, Ewers, Simmonds, Horstmann. Second half: Botha; Hughes/Arnott, Hendrickson, Slade, Jess; Sweeney, Lewis; Moon, Bateman, Francis, Caldwell, Armand, Johnson, White, Waldrom. Reps: Taione, Low, Holmes, Thomas, May
