A village near Exeter has achieved national attention after being named as "the kindest place on earth" by BBC broadcaster Jeremy Vine.
The journalist tweeted a picture of a chair beside a bus stop in Newton Poppleford that has the words 'OAPs please take a seat' written on it.

The post was not the first from the author to sing praisers for the village between Exeter and Sidmouth and its residents. In November last year he posted: Heading back London and @BBCRadio2 after best haircut ever from Elena in Newton Poppleford, Devon

The popular BBC 2 presenter would seem to have a soft spot in his heart for East Devon, regularly visiting Sidmouth on holiday.
In 2013 he wrote an article for The Telegraph on his love for the seaside town, commenting its the 'complete opposite of London'. He also recommended Moore's restaurant in Newton Poppleford as the best place for lunch in the region.![]()
