A 42 year old Exeter man has been banned from football matches for three years after he launched an unprovoked attack on rival fans.
Andrew Cosway, of Burrator Drive, Exwick, punched two Portsmouth fans and tried to attack others in an incident in the Duke of York pub in the city after Exeter City had hosted a 1-1 draw against the Pompey team.
Cosway admitted using threatening behaviour with intent to cause unlawful violence when he appeared at Exeter magistrates court.
The removal man told the court he got 'caught up in the atmosphere and saw the red mist' when ten Exeter fans converged at the pub with five Portsmouth supporters. He was caught on CCTV lashing out at the rival fans, punching two of them in the head and knocking them to the ground.
Cosway was fined a total of £255 with costs, banned from the pub for nine months and from all football games for three years.
The latest figures released by the Home Office were from October last year and represented the 2012/13 season. The stats showed that Exeter City had 23 supporters on banning orders - more than rivals Plymouth and Torquay.
And the Grecians also had more fans arrested during that season than either of their Devon rivals.
The complete league table for banning orders and arrests is shown below.
