Hardy competitors donned their wetsuits in aid of a good cause at the annual Topsham to Turf Ferryman's Swim on Saturday. Councillor Margaret Baldwin cut the ribbon to start the swim before the swimmers entered the water near the Passage House Inn on Ferry Road. The swim raised funds for Estuary League of Friends, a local charity providing services including a lunch club, day centre, memory cafe, transport to and from medical appointments, as well as a range of customised services for clients. Organisers thanked the brave 83 swimmers who completed the swim in a record time. "The Ferryman's Swim has once again proved that anyone can take part and can achieve their challenge," said a spokesman for the Estuary League of Friends. Congratulations went to Lynssey Willis, who completed the mile and a half in 35 minutes, closely followed closely by Norman Cesar and Jack Purchall. The first youth swimmer home was Thomas Veale.
