Exeter Harrier Jo Pavey secured a Commonwealth Games bronze medal in the women's 5,000m race in Glasgow on Saturday.
In a thrilling encounter, 40-year-old Pavey led at the start of the final lap before dropping to fourth, only to gain a position on the home straight and very nearly grab silver.
Kenya's Mercy Cherono won the race in 15mins 7.21secs, more than 1.6 seconds clear of compatriot Janet Kisa, with Pavey third in 15.08.96.
"I tried to think 'just don't regret this', I kept focused and was determined to not let the Kenyan trio beat me," said Pavey, who collected a Commonwealth silver medal in 2006 over 5,000m in Melbourne.
"It feels a bit surreal, especially when I crossed the line. I really didn't believe I had got a medal. I had to look at the scoreboard.
"It's a really lovely atmosphere and I'm really happy. I didn't know how realistic it would be to run well, but I just wanted to run hard and see what happened.
""It is really special to think I am 40 with two children - one of them a 10-month old baby - I didn't think it would maybe result in this so I am so happy and grateful to everybody."
