Exeter firefighters were called in after around 20 large bales of hay caught fire in a field off Ludwell Lane, St Loyes.
Alerted by residents,fire crews from Danes Castle and Middlemoor were called in.
They reached the fire by crossing through two fields and allowed the hay bales to burn out.
They accelerated the burn using a positive pressure ventilation fan and extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet and drag forks to put the bales apart.
The hay bales were severely damaged by fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire Service.
