A court usher had to spray a court after a homeless man appeared in the dock.
Glenn Skinner, 43, of no fixed abode, denied a charge of assaulting a woman in Exeter, Devon.
But then the scruffy defendant held his leg as told district judge Stephen Nicolls:"I have been picking maggots out of my leg."
Skinner was bailed by Exeter magistrates court and will be tried in September.
After he left the courtroom the court usher produced a fresh air aerosol which she sprayed around the court.
