Forecasters have announced there could be another heatwave round the corner for Devon Despite the Met Office's earlier warnings of heavy showers and thunderstorms, the Westcountry bathed in sunny weather at the weekend – much to the relief of holidaymakers and festival goers. And that sunshine is set to continue, with clear skies and scorching temperatures of up to 28C forecast for the region over the next few days. Forecasters said today will begin with sunny spells in Devon and temperatures expected to rise to 24C. On Tuesday things look to get even hotter, with highs of 25C forecast as cloud in the north begins to clear. And temperatures are likely to rise again on Wednesday with highs of up to 26C. "Much of the first part of this week will remain fine and dry with plenty of sunny spell," a Met Office spokesman said: "The Western and some Northern parts of the Devon and Cornwall will have some low lying cloud but inland, Southern and Eastern will have clear skies and those clouds should begin to clear early in the week." But sunworshippers should make the most of the fantastic weather while they can, as Thursday and Friday will see the return of overcast skies and outbreaks of heavy rain. The end of the week could also see temperatures soar in to the high twenties, once again bringing a humid feel to the Westcountry – along with more storms. "Towards the weekend there will be an increased risk of showers developing with temperatures getting up to the mid to high 20s, particularly in the eastern areas of Devon" the spokesperson continued. "This may well see thundery storms return to parts of the region."
