Athletics round-up: Exeter Harriers up to second, plus results from the Otter Rail and River run

EXETER HARRIERS Exeter Harriers moved up to second in the Devon Open standings following some excellent individual performances in Plymouth at the weekend. Owen Styler triumphed in the senior men's category, with wins in the 200m in a time of 23.71secs, and the 400m in 53.27. Patrick Livingstone won the under-17 3,000m in 9mins 26.86secs. Jack Moncur was also victorious in the under-17 high jump with 1.60m, and took second in the long jump with 5.43m. Throws specialist Josh Tyler had another successful competition with wins in the under-13 hammer and discus. He managed it with throws of 20.23m, in the hammer, and 20. 90m in the discus He also picked up second place in the shot putt with a throw of 7.23m. Craig Moncur won the high jump with 1.25m and came second in the 75m hurdles in 15.86. Josh Cann claimed two second places in the under-11 quadrathlon. He managed to get 3.71m in the long jump and 2.01.3 in the 600m. Sam Mills maintains his top position in the under-10 quadrathlon with wins in the vortex throw of 27.70m and the 600m in 1.57.68. He finished second in the 75m sprint in 12.51. Phoebe Killen won the under-17 3,000in 12.22.74. Ellie Marok claimed the runner up spot in the 300m hurdles with 48.49. Izzy Hargreaves won the under-15 100m in 13.94 and took second in the long jump with 4.57m. Lauren Coleman won the 200m and 800m in 28.56 and 2.30.52 respectively. She was second in the discus with 16.74m. Anna Downs came in second in the 3,000m in 12.14.37. Isobel Pinsky claimed two first places in the 75m hurdles and high jump with a time of 12.06 and a jump of 1.45m. She also picked up second place in the 100m in 14.32. Alice Please won the long jump with 4.26m and claimed second in the high jump with 1.25m. Amy-Beth Curtis won the shot putt with 7.19m and was second in the long jump with 3.75m. Rosie Phillips claimed second in the shot putt with 5.99m. Imogen Congreve won the under-11 75m sprint with 11.91 in a very large field of athletes. Emily Adcock won the under-10 600m in 2.15.6 and Aimee Blatchford claimed second in 2.18.4. Two of Exeter Harriers' middle distance runners have recorded personal bests at the British Milers' Club Trafford Grand Prix. Emily Weeks came in third in the 800m D race with a time of 2mins 13.31secs and Josh Trigwell won the 1,500 C race with 3.49.57. Exeter Harriers' 15-year-old Jack Moncur has been selected to compete for Scotland under-18s on Saturday, August 9, at the Morton Stadium in Dublin. He will compete in the javelin at the Celtic Games International. OTTER RAIL & RIVER RUN South West Road Runner James Reeves won the Otter Rail and River Run 10k on Saturday in a time of 36mins 57secs. He was just ahead of Teignbridge Trotter Daryl Milford, who finished in 37.06, with Alex Watkins of Haldon Trail Runners in third place in 37.57. First lady was also a South West Road Runner, Alexandra Cutts, in 44.06. Sidmouth Running Club's Jessica Raynor was the next lady to cross the line, 15th overall, in 44.33, while Hannah Bown (18th) was the third woman home in 45.27. Sidmouth won the ladies' team prize, with Raynor, Ellie Stone and Lucy Owen their competitors. The men's team prize went to Teignbridge Trotters and their runners Daryl Milford, Roger Hayes and Mark Hutchins. Other results, veteran male over 40: Darly Milford. Veteran male over 50: Tim Legg 42.54. Veteran male over-60: Pete Kirby 50.48. Veteran male over-70: Ted Bloomfield, 53.32. Veteran female over-35: Alexandra Cutts. Veteran female over-45: Julie Payne 47.44. Veteran female over-55: Eleanor Wood 45.51. Veteran female over-65: Sue Cunningham 1.12.17 The fun run was won by Toby Garrick, with Sam Pyne in second place. The first girl was Jemima Gambier and second Niah Bown. Other prizes were as follows, under-10 boys: 1 Oliver Beech, 2 Josiah Drew. Under-10 girls: 1 Darcie Morton. Under-13 boys: 1 Sam Yearling, 2 Christian Teague. Under 13 girls: 1 Anya Gosal, 2 Kate Marriott. Under-15 boys: 1 Matt Sheridan. Under-15 girls: Bethany Sampson. SOUTH WEST ROAD RUNNERS Along with James Reeves winning run at the Otter Rail and River 10k race, there were some other good performances from SWRR at the event. Graham Reeves finished fifth in a time of 40mins 3secs. Steven Slade, who came ninth overall, finished in a time of 42.50. Other SWRR results: 20 Barry Frost 44.29, 38 Jim Durston 48.00, 45 Catherine Hilton in 48.59, 110 Lawrence Athertin in 59.52, 124 Rebecca Reeves 1:05.52. Karen Cook was first female runner home at last Saturday's Royal Haldon Trail Race. She managed to finish in 18th position overall in a time of 37.45. HALDON TRAIL RUNNERS Six Haldon Trail Runners took part in the Otter Rail & River Run 10k. Alex Watkins led them home in third place in a time of 37mins 57secs, with Nathan White 11th in 43.05, Nick Warren 25th in 45.28, Martin McEneny 28th in 45.59, Charlotte Weedon 31st in 46.21 and Ben Epps 33rd in 46.56. Watkins also raced on Saturday evening in the Royal Haldon Trail Race, organised by Ironbridge Runner. He was 10th over the 8k course in 33.40, with Angus Menter the first member of the club to finish as he was fifth overall and first male over-40 in 31.38. Anthea Whitaker was 21st overall, second woman and the first female over-50 in 39.24. AXE VALLEY RUNNERS Josh d'Albertanson completed the junior July handicap in a personal best time of 16mins 43secs to take first place. Ollie Caute was second in 11.25, Ethan Day third in 12.00, Bobby Simpson fourth in 12.02 and James Knapp fifth in 13.25. It is now tight at the top of the junior rankings with Mia Bartlett first with 118 points, Ethan Day (117) second and Adam Burrough (114) third. Mark Harding-Perrott was the senior handicap victor in 29.33, followed by Ian Apps in 22.43 and Chris Keefe 22.33. Steve Maclure was fourth in 25.54, Richard Hale fifth in 26.26 and Alan Morbey sixth in 27.05. Justin and Lynn Sloman completed The Blackdown Beauty 18-mile social run on Saturday. On Saturday two AVRs ran the Otter Vale Rail & River run 10k. Patrick Divine-Wright was fourth overall in an impressive time of 38mins 38secs. Eleanor Wood was 27th overall and first lady over-50 in 45.51. Emma Kiernan ran the Wellington 10-mile race and finished 21st out of 92 in 1:15. 32. Luke Reed competed in the Plymouth Olympic distance Triathlon. The race was a 1,500m swim, 25-mile bike and 10k run. Reed had a good swim in 22.23, then a solid bike ride on an undulating course in 1:18.3secs. The race finished with a tough 10k run with 550ft. of climbing. Reed's time of 43.45 was one of the top 10 run times of the day giving him 14th place overall out of 220 starters. Eight-year-old Darcie Morton is proving to be a fine talent. She won the under-10 girls race at the Otter Rail & River 1.5-mile fun run. Tim Lenton finished second in the Cosdon Beacon fell race. His time of 30mins 3secs was just behind the winner James Best who finished in a time of 29.06. James Jackson was fourth in 31.18. Robin Carter was the first lady home and she set a new course record for the women in 37.35. Six AVRs took part in a social petal run on Sunday. Garry Perratt and Matt Clist ran all six loops for a total distance of 40 miles, while Phil Bayliss, Amy Greenhalgh and Eleanor Wood also completed significant distances.
